Dallas is a playground for the retail junkie. From independent boutiques to designer showrooms to national department stores, shoppers will find a vast array of offerings among Big D’s shopping centers, districts and malls. Highland Park Village, Knox-Henderson, NorthPark Center, Bishop Arts, the Design District, Grapevine Mills —all offer a distinctly different shopping experience.

Need your designer label fix and want the variety a big department store can provide? Then Northpark Center, Galleria or Highland Park Village is for you. Looking for one-off boutiques and designers unique to this city? Then you’ll be in heaven perusing the shops of Knox-Henderson or Bishop Arts. The guide below, put together by Cynthia Smoot of Oh So Cynthia, will help steer you toward your preferred brand of retail therapy.

Northpark Center

Knox-Henderson

The Knox-Henderson district offers one of Dallas’ most eclectic and diverse entertainment districts. Cut in half by Central Expressway, you’ll find entertainment, dining and great shopping on both sides of the road. The Knox Street side offers a high-end shopping and dining experience, with home-furnishing stores like Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Weirs Furniture and Z Gallerie. Dine at delectable restaurants Abacus, Mr. Mesero, or Taverna or partake in old-fashioned dessert establishments Wild About Harrys and Highland Park Soda Shop. The best part: it’s all walkable and just a stone’s throw from the Katy Trail.

The Henderson Avenue side has been the subject of much improvement over the past decade and has developed into one of the hottest areas in Dallas. With its wide selection of boutiques (Milk & Honey, Gypsy Wagon, We Are 1776), bars (Old Monk, J. Blacks, Capitol Pub) and trendy dining (The Porch, Glass Boot Biergarten), Henderson Avenue has become a centralized hub for “in” Dallasites.

You’ll find great a little bit of everything in this neighborhood; from art (Dallas Contemporary Museum, Goss-Michael Foundation) to home decor (Again & Again, Anteks Home Furnishings, Celon et Cie, Rug Company). Restaurants (Oak, Meddlesome Moth, Pakpao Thai and Dallas’ most-talked-about chef, Matt McAllister at FT33) to high-end shopping (f. is for frank, Front Door Fashion, Gallerie Noir, Prashe). The neighborhood is spread out over several square miles so think ahead and have a plan of attack.

West Village

Located in the center of Dallas’ most dynamic neighborhoods—Uptown—West Village is one of Dallas’ most walkable shopping, dining and residential districts and is served by DART’s Red and Blue Lines at the Uptown Station and the Historic McKinney Avenue Trolley. West Village is a gathering of eclectic boutiques (y&i, Kendra Scott jewelry, Nicole Kwon, Rye 51, WAREhaus, L. Bartlett and Abi Ferrin) as well as established retailers (Tommy Bahama, Gap and Banana Republic) which create an urban like feel similar to SoHo in New York or Robertson in L.A.

Along with this variety of shopping options you will find one-of-a-kind restaurants, bars and cafes (Taco Diner, LYFE Kitchen, Sushi Zushi and Village Burger Bar). And above all these hip spots there are apartments and lofts with more than 30 different floor plans. Located within the shopping center is the luxurious Westin Galleria hotel, which provides serious shoppers a reason to never leave the grounds. After trekking the three levels of shops, head to the Spa at Nordstorm for a foot massage or sit for a spell at The Grill On The Alley or Mi Cocina and you’ll be good to hit the floor for more!

The Shops at Legacy

The Shops at Legacy is a mixed-use destination situated in the heart of Legacy Town Center, a 168-acre master planned development of boutique retail, best-in-class restaurants, urban-style homes, corporate headquarters, a full-service hotel and more than 8 acres of public parks and trails.
